What requirements do I need for my master?

First of all, you have to meet the legal requirements, i.e. you must hold a bachelor’s degree. In addition, a certain Grade Point Average (GPA) and a certificate attesting to a good knowledge of the English language are required. Once these minimum requirements have been met, depending on the type of bachelor’s degree you possess, you may or may not be accepted for the master’s degree.

Will students with a bachelor's degree in computer engineering be admitted to the master's degree?

If the bachelor’s degree was taken at the Politecnico and the minimum requirements are met, there are no difficulties, since the master was planned to be in continuity with respect to the bachelor. Students coming from other Italian universities must also meet the minimum requirements; they are more likely to have some “obligation”, i.e. specific courses that they are obliged to include in the study plan, but which contribute to the number of credits required.

Will students with a bachelor's degree in information science be admitted to the master's degree?

This is a complex situation, for two reasons. On the one hand, since the bachelor’s degree in information sciences is very specialized in computer science, students who come from this background and arrive at the Politecnico have “obligations” and “debts” (i.e. additional compulsory courses) aimed at recovering the engineering knowledge not acquired before. On the other hand, the master’s degree reintroduces topics that information science students have already covered during their bachelor’s degree.

Will students with a bachelor's degree in an engineering degree programme other than computer engineering be admitted to the master's degree programme?

It depends, in this case the students have a very good knowledge of “engineering” subjects but have major IT deficiencies. Therefore, if admitted, they will have a number of “obligations” (compulsory courses to make up for the IT knowledge they miss).

Regarding foreign students, in which cases are they admitted?

Students who have done a bachelor’s degree in “computer science and engineering” are likely to be admitted, although probably with “obligations” (compulsory courses to make up for the knowledge they miss). It is more complex to be admitted for those who hold a bachelor in a different course of study and even then, there will be obligations. Moreover, it is important to make it clear to foreign students that as a mode of delivery the master’s degree in Italy resembles a bachelor’s degree, because in some countries it is closer to a PhD.
